Analysis: Obama won with ethnic, racial coalition

Arizona: The largest share of John McCain voters - 67% - were white and 29% were Hispanic

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico’s voters split along familiar ethnic and racial lines in this year’s presidential race.

But those divisions in the electorate played a significant role in the outcome.

An exit poll of New Mexico voters showed an overwhelming majority of Democrat Barack Obama’s supporters were Hispanic, American Indian and African American.

Hispanics were the largest segment of Obama’s supporters — accounting for half.

Whites represented 38% of Obama’s voters. Other minorities, mainly American Indians, made up the remainder
